Bill Ford To Step Down As Detroit Economic Club Chair

Ford Motor Company’s Executive Chairman and great-grandson to Henry Ford, Bill Ford, has announced that he will retire from his position as volunteer Chair of the Detroit Economic Club. He’s served for more than 12 years.

The Detroit Economic Club is a forum for debating different economic, political, and social issues, and has been recognized as one of the top ten speaking forums in the world, according to Ford Motor Company. While Bill Ford served as Chair, the DEC launched the Young Leaders program, expanded its Educational Outreach program, and in June of 2009, hosted The National Summit – a forum centered on how to revitalize the US economy. It also launched the Career Readiness Academy, which engages with high school students to prepare them for their future careers.

Replacing Bill Ford as Chair of the DEC will be DTE Energy Chairman and CEO Gerry Anderson.

“I believe strongly in the mission of the Detroit Economic Club as it serves as a point of pride and promise for Detroit and plays an important role as the region works to reinvent itself,” said Bill Ford in a statement. “I am particularly proud of the progress the Club has made through the Young Leaders program, which is helping engage and develop our next generation of leaders here at home.”
